Barrister M. Shafiqur Rahman

Managing Partner, Orient Legal

M. Shafiqur Rahman is a Barrister-at-Law, an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and the Managing Partner of Orient Legal. He has practised for nearly three decades, including more than twenty years before the High Court Division.

He worked in the chambers of Dr M. Zahir, one of Bangladesh’s leading corporate and constitutional lawyers, from 2004 until Dr Zahir’s death in 2013, and was subsequently a member of Dr M. Zahir & Associates. That formative period gave him substantial experience in company law and corporate practice.

His work spans corporate and commercial disputes, company law, securities and capital markets, banking and finance, insurance, admiralty, international trade, judicial review and arbitration. His years as retained counsel to the Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC have given him a close and practical understanding of securities law, regulation and the capital-market framework.

He has acted for financial institutions, listed companies, insurers, P&I Clubs and commercial enterprises. His experience includes domestic and SIAC maritime arbitrations, and he has also served as amicus curiae before the High Court Division.
